Patrick was born in the United States of America, but a visit to Cape Town resulted in patriotic love for the continent and he now proudly calls South Africa his home.
Patrick Shields offers more than 27 years of solution delivery and consulting experience, with 13 of those years managing the delivery of Software AG solutions. He has worked in various roles throughout his career including Chief Enterprise Architect, IT Director, Senior Principal Consultant, Pre-Sales Manager, Technical Account Manager, Project Lead and Software Engineer.
Patrick has a wealth of business and technology experience. He has delivered numerous customer engagements using Software AG products such as ARIS, webMethods ESB and BPM, as well as webMethods (IBO) Intelligent Business Operations. He has also designed and delivered solutions integrated to ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle Applications, Siebel and PeopleSoft. Several of his projects are documented customer success stories.
Prior to Software AG, Patrick managed delivery and adoption of webMethods BPM and SOA at a $1.7B financial services firm. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Oglethorpe University in the USA.

Riaaz lives his life every day by Steve Jobs’ inspiring words: “Stay hungry. Stay foolish.” This tenacious outlook on life has proven very successful for Riaaz. He says he has achieved more in his 15 years within ICT than he ever dreamt of.
“Technology has changed the world and continues to change it every day,” says Riaaz. He believes that if you can imagine it, technology can make it happen. As an entrepreneur, he knows the truth in these words. He realized his dream of owning a Lamborghini by founding his own side-business called Supercar Club in 2009.

As Software AG’s Sales Director, Riaaz is responsible for creating and delivering sales strategy within the Corporate Sector which includes industries such as Mining, Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Media, Retail and Logistics.
Riaaz is also responsible for managing the Regional Sales Manager Teams, fostering strategic relationships with key market players and developing sales strategies, tactics and profit targets. Within 5 months of joining Software AG, Riaaz achieved 106% of the revenue target set for the Corporate Sector. His portfolio now also includes the Utilities and State Owned Enterprises Sector.
With 15 years’ experience in the ICT industry, he plays a fundamental role in developing the company’s future growth, providing vision, direction and leadership. Throughout his successful career, he has gained experience within various roles such as Head of Engagement, Business Management, Account Management and IT Consulting both locally and internationally.
Significant achievements in Jeena’s career include completing his IBM Global Sales School training with Top Honours, being shortlisted for Microsoft’s World Partner Summit Business Intelligence Award and being elected to the Board of International Association of Microsoft’s Certified Partners.
Presales Director, Johannesburg, South Africa
Gareth Whitaker’s passion is technology in all its forms. Aside from work, he is an avid gaming-enthusiast.
Gareth’s vision for Software AG’s Presales division is to provide great value to clients - from both a technical perspective and by providing value through solving customer challenges or providing customers with new opportunities through the best application of Software AG’s innovative solutions. Gareth believes that Software AG can deliver on this because of its ability and proven history of providing Business value through Technology. Through the team’s depth of knowledge Software AG exceeds in providing agile solutions, no matter what the challenges are.
Gareth has over 20 years’ experience in the ICT industry, specialising in the fields of Business Solutions, Business Process Management, Integration, Business Intelligence, Business-to-Business and Big Data.
Gareth joined Software AG South Africa’s Presales team in 2011 as a Senior Systems Engineer. In this role, Gareth was responsible for crafting solutions to complex Business problems or opportunities through the application of Software AG’s Digital Business Platform, showcasing the value and possibilities of solutions, as well as the technical details and architectures to prospective customers. Gareth also created custom demonstrations and proof-of-concepts for new prospects, based on each company’s unique requirements.
Within a year of his appointment, Gareth was promoted to System Engineering Team Lead, managing the System Engineering function of the Presales organisation in South Africa. This included managing all Proof of Concepts, Customised Demonstrations, and other key technical initiatives delivered by the System Engineering team.
In 2013, Software AG South Africa appointed Gareth as the Presales Manager, and in January 2016 Gareth was promoted to his current position of Presales Director. He currently leads the Presales division including responsibility for team development, growth, aligning the team to Software AG’s business strategy and driving customer value through the best alignment of Technology.
Financial, Controlling and Administration Director (FC&A), Johannesburg, South Africa
Stephen is a highly analytical and focussed individual. Although he is serious about the numbers, he is quick to cause a smile with his dry sense of humour.
Stephen is passionate about motorcycles. Not only is this his favourite pastime, but also his chosen mode of transport to the office every day – come rain or shine. Stephen is also well-travelled but remains proud that he will always call South Africa ‘home’.
Stephen Sim brings with him over 20 years of financial experience from various IT, retail and manufacturing industries, gained in both local and foreign environments.
Stephen joined Software AG South Africa in October 2008 and was appointed to the Board in March 2009 as Financial, Controlling and Administration Director, which has been his role to date. His portfolio of responsibilities includes finance, human resources, IT and administration. Stephen holds a BCompt degree from the University of South Africa and a CMA (Charted Management Accountant).
Sim is also highly knowledgeable about specialist fields such as Business Strategy, Managerial Finance, Business Process Design, Change and Risk Management and Financial Analysis.
Prior to Software AG, he worked for Mercedes-Benz South Africa for nearly 10 years as Treasury Operations Manager, and held various financial positions at SASKO Milling, Mutual and Federal, Goldwell SA, HP and debis Financial Services.
